Background and Legal Career
Francis “Fritz” Moritz is the founder and principal of The Moritz Law Group, LLC. Fritz was born in the northeast section of Philadelphia and graduated from Father Judge High School in 1987. The first to attend college in his family, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree locally at La Salle University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and The La Salle Rugby Club. Throughout high school and while earning his college degree, Fritz helped his parents run the family business, a small but popular neighborhood grocery store in the Mayfair section of the city. Directly from college, he attended Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey earning his Juris Doctorate in 1994. For the academic year 1993-1994, he was a visiting student at Louisiana State University School of Law in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Following graduation from law school, Fritz returned to Philadelphia to begin his legal career, but even prior to graduation, he gained experience with workers' compensation matters as he served as a law clerk for the Judges of Workers' Compensation during the summer of 1993.
Since being admitted to the bar in 1994, Fritz has been handling workers' compensation cases. His first associate attorney position was working under the tutelage of former Workers' Compensation Judge Christina J. Barbieri when she was in private practice representing claimants. In 1998, after roughly four years of representing claimants, Fritz decided to change the direction of his professional career to begin representing employers and insurance carriers. He brought with him a unique background of having handled an extensive amount of claimant cases and also having helped run a small family business in a working class neighborhood while obtaining his degree. Upon leaving Ms. Barbieri's firm, Fritz joined the law firm of Kent & McBride, P.C. where he worked for fifteen years consulting and representing insurers and self-insured businesses throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey in defense of workers’ compensation claims. He started with Kent & McBride as an associate attorney and he became a partner seeing the firm grow from thirteen attorneys to over fifty during his tenure. In June 2013, Fritz left Kent & McBride to open The Moritz Law Group continuing to fight for the rights of employers and insurers in defense of workers' compensation claims. Over his legal career, Fritz has handled countless cases at the Judge level and argued successfully on appeals before the Workers' Compensation Appeal Board and the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. Fritz was selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in 2012 and again in 2013. Prior to that, he was selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer Rising Star.
Fritz continues to be a resident of Philadelphia. He currently lives in the Art Museum section of the city with his wife and their two children. Fritz and his family are active in the community and enjoy supporting The Salvation Army, the Pancreatic Cancer Network and St. Catherine Laboure Medical Clinic, which offers compassionate, high-quality medical care to workers who are uninsured.
